I'm Maya Dusenbery. I'm a contributor at Feministing and an editorial intern at Mother Jones. I tweet here and can be reached at maya@feministing.com.Samhita is damn smart. On the veil and the challenges of transnational feminism. With a little Ashley Judd thrown in too. An excerpt:
“The context may be different, but state mandates and coercion on what should be on or off women’s bodies is unjust. Demanding women’s bodies should be covered or uncovered, makes their bodies the ground on which battles of culture are fought. She is reduced to only her sex, objectified either in her being covered or in her being exposed. She becomes the stand-in symbol for either the past or the future, for religious anxiety and for nationalism.”
The text translates to: “Oppressed women are easily overlooked. Please support us in the fight for their rights.” The worst.
And she’s not sorry about it at all. She claims, “As a woman, I felt attacked.” Um, no, lady, you felt attacked because you’re an Islamophobe.
Bill O’Reilly on the The View: “Listen to me because then you’ll learn…blahblah…Muslims killed us on 9/11…blahblah.” Also, Whoopi’s outfit is the best.
Apparently it’s basically at the epicenter of the doorstep to the sacred ground of the hallowed ashes where Islamic terrorism mass-murdered America’s heart.
“There is a difference between what you can do and what you should do. For instance, you can build a Catholic church next to a playground. Should you?”
